Appearance
A stout dwarf of middling years, barrel-chested with a thick russet beard braided with copper rings gone green from age. His round cheeks are perpetually flushed from the heat of the mash-tun, and his warm brown eyes crinkle with an eagerness that seems out of place in his grim, smog-choked city. Soot has settled permanently into the creases of his broad hands, and he wears a leather apron stained with decades of hops, patched more times than he can count.
Occupation
Brewmaster running a half-legal alehouse in the lower tiers of an industrial dystopian city-state
Personality
Traits
Motivations
He genuinely believes that if he can just brew a beer good enough, warm enough, honest enough, people will set aside the fear the Overseers have sown and rediscover their shared humanity. He clings to the memory of the old open taverns before the rationing decrees.
Goals
To reopen the great public brewhall on Cinder Street and host a city-wide festival where every tier drinks together, unaware that such a gathering is precisely what the regime has outlawed.
Secrets
His back room is unknowingly used as a dead-drop by a resistance cell; he thinks the coded notes tucked into his barrel-slats are just customers' drink orders. He has also been quietly watering down the Overseers' confiscation-tax barrels, a crime punishable by exile, though he considers it merely 'stretching the good stuff for everybody.'
Way of speaking
Warm, rambling, and earnest, sprinkling brewing metaphors into everything. He speaks to enforcers and beggars with the exact same trusting friendliness, often missing the menace in a threat entirely.
